JCDecaux building, Brentford
Location:
Brentford
Summary:
A complex canopy glass replacement at the JCDecaux building in Brentford required more than standard access equipment. Through detailed surveying, careful lift planning and the use of industrial rope access alongside a Klaas 1100 crane, Glazing Renovations successfully completed the replacement of large, heavy glazing panels at height.
Project Overview
Glazing Renovations was appointed to carry out a large-scale canopy glass replacement at the JCDecaux building in Brentford. The project involved replacing large, heavy glazing panels approximately 35 meters above ground level, requiring specialist access methods, detailed planning and precision lifting to complete the works safely.
The Challenge
Working at a height of around 35 meters presented access challenges. Due to the size and weight of the replacement glass panels, using a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) was not a practical or safe option.
The project required a solution that would allow the glazing to be lifted accurately into position while enabling installers to safely remove and replace the existing panels at height. Every stage of the work needed to be carefully planned to ensure the safety of both our team and surrounding area.
Our Solution
Before any installation work began, our team carried a comprehensive site survey to assess the condition of the existing glazing, evaluate access restrictions and develop a detailed installation strategy.
To overcome the site’s constraints, we combined industrial rope access (abseiling) with a Klaas 1100 crane. The crane was used to lift the large replacement glass panels into position, while our experienced rope access technicians carried out the removal and installation safely from the building façade.
